Lanchester Scenic Overlook

Chester County Radio Control Club (AMA #196) invites you to experience our premier gliding and soaring site.

The Lanchester Scenic Overlook is an elevated FRIA at 1,000ft above sea level. Situated at the threshold of “Pennsylvania Amish Country,” the site offers breathtaking 360 degree views of pastoral beauty and rural farmlands for miles out to the horizon. Just off Rt. 322 near Honey Brook, PA, the site occupies the highest elevation in the county.

You’ll soar in endless open sky with a reliable fresh breeze, no pressure, no rush, and no public. There is a covered pavilion out of the sun with picnic tables where lunch, snacks, and refreshments can be served.

There is a pavilion with picnic tables at the summit. Perfect for afternoon shade and a relaxing lunch. Visitors are encouraged to bring folding chairs. Restrooms are available at ground level.

The site has its own weather station which updates every 15 minutes to the web:  http://www.chestercswaweather.org/   “Site2” is closest to the summit.

The site owners are generously putting in an Astroturf or Geotex runway for us this year. Right about where Tony is standing in the photo above.

In the meantime, the site is optimum for hand-launch, or STOL planes with sturdy landing gear. We have limited length of approx. 200ft available for high starts. STOL planes can take off & land on existing astroturf. Not optimal for retracts or wind averse airframes.

Here you can get a sense of scale and perspective; note person height. In the pic are Alec, Tony, and Mark last autumn having our “if you build it, they will come” moment. We are very proud to make this stunning location available to CCRC members and friends.
